Nickerson Gardens Playground
The Kao Family Foundation (KFF) provided a grant to assist with the construction of a new interactive space at Nickerson Gardens: a public housing development in the Watts area of Los Angeles, California. Nickerson is the biggest housing project west of the Mississippi, made up of 1,066 units in 156 buildings. There are also about 900 children in the Nickerson community. The NIckerson Gardens Playground project is dedicated to building a new place for the kids of Nickerson to use their energy and intellect to exercise, interact and let their imaginations run wild. The goal for this new playground is to be a source of pride of the community and a social hub that brings families togethers. In addition to a playground, this project includes the creation of a community amphitheater theatre, fitness area, picnic area and interactive water feature.
